Education has always been accepted as a powerful and effective medium to enhance the productivity of individuals besides its other roles in any society. The National Policy on Education (NPE). 1986 reiterated the concept of Work Education as purposive and meaningful manual work, organized as an integral part of the learning process and resulting in either goods or services useful to the community. The policy has in addition, visualized pre-vocational programmes at the lower secondary stage.

The content of this book is up to date, Important recommendation of the Vanous Education Commission has been incorporated thoroughly. The book comprises five chapters viz. Work Education at Upper Primary Level, Organisation and Management of Work Education Assessment and Evaluation of Work Education: Work Education and Community Based Evaluation: Integrating Work Education with other subjects along with 12 lesson plans and various approaches; Methods of Work Education and use of Science Kit and D.EED. question paper and bibliography. Wherever possible, I have tried to give statements from original sources of NCERT documents, SCERT documents and different books as mentioned in the bibliography.

LP. Singh was born in 1945 in the Village of Attari near Muktsar District, Punjab. He passed B.Sc., B.Ed. (four-year integrated course) from Regional College of Education, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh in the year 1970 with third position on the merit list from Vikram University, Ujjain He earned his master’s degree in physics (M.Sc., Physics) from Bhopal University in 1972. He also earned a Diploma in Educational Planning and Administration (DEPA) from the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, Delhi in 1990.

He started his career as a Lecturer in Physics in Bhopal and as a Science Teacher in the Directorate of Education, Delhi. He was Senior Lecturer and Head of the Work Experience Department in the District Institute of Education (DIET) of Delhi for several years. He organized a number of teacher training programmes and completed many projects. He was deputed by SCERT, Delhi as one of the authors of Science books for class VI to VIII published by Delhi Text Book Bureau, Directorate of Education, N.C.T of Delhi. He has more than forty-three years of experience as a Lecturer, Teacher, Educator, Administrator and Guest Teacher. He had also worked as Principal (Officiating) of the District Institute of Education and Training, Moti Bagh, New Delhi. He was honoured with a Silver Medal from the President of India, Govt. of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Census of India in 1981.
