PREFACE

Science has to be understood as a lively and growing body of knowledge. The students have to learn the dynamism of science by observing things closely, recording observations and then drawing inferences from what they observe. Observations are to be made by performing such activities which can easily be performed by the students often without costly equipment and even at home. When science is learned In this manner, the students would learn the ways of nature and start appreciating it. All this we expect from students only if our science teachers develop the same scientific attitude.

This book has been written keeping in view to help student teachers to develop a scientific attitude through their scientific approach to teaching It encourages the teaching of science through activities, and the use of modern methods. new techniques of teaching, and innovative lesson planning procedures.

The present textbook Pedagogy of Science’ is designed for B. Ed. course (2 years) according to the latest syllabus of Panjab University. Chandigarh, Punjabi University, Patiala and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The concepts of pedagogy of science are explained in a clear and concise way. The language used is simple and lucid. The learning of various skills of pedagogy of science will be a joyful experience with a number of illustrations and comprehensive concepts. It is hoped that the text in its present enlarged and modified form will serve the purpose of prospective science teachers and even teachers in service.
