About the Book

We realized the need for providing the best learning materials for Special Education Teacher Trainees. So, the overriding concern in “Handbook on Special Education and Children with Special Needs is to present material clearly in simple language so that trainee teachers can read it on their own to acquire knowledge. This Handbook is designed to provide a comprehensive outlook on Special Education, in order to enhance and strengthen the role of educating persons with disabilities in various educational programmes.

This Handbook is specially conceived to help teacher trainees who have chosen the elective subject in D.El.Ed, B.Ed and M.Ed, Special Education (VI/HI/ID/MD/DB) Course. It is very useful for teacher recruitment for the posts of School Assistants (Special Education) under Inclusive Education for Disabled Children at Secondary Stage (IEDSS), Special DSC, TET, TRT, UGC NET/SET and Other Competitive Examinations throughout the India. However, this handbook would enlighten all people who are interested in working with persons with disabilities, parents of children with special needs, and also helpful to the resource teachers who are working in Inclusive Education.

About the Authors

Dr. Jasmer Singh is serving as Asst. Prof. in NIEPVD, Dehradun. He is also the National Coordinator of Teacher Training Centres Imparting Diploma Level Teacher Training in the field of Visual Impairment. As a Resource Person in the field, he has presented papers, chaired sessions and placed his valuable views in various National and International level workshops and seminars. More than twenty of his research papers have been published in various National and International Journals.

Dr. G. Sri Krishna is a faculty in Rehabilitation Psychology at NIEPID, Secunderabad, formerly NIMH, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. He has 20 years of experience in serving Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and their families. He has numerous publications to his credit in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Spirituality. He has contributed immensely in the area of Positive Aspects of Intellectual Disability.

Dr. Premananda Mishra, is presently working as a Lecturer, NIEPVD, under Department of Disability Affairs, Govt. of India, Bhubaneswar, has teaching experience of more than 25 years. He has published several articles in various journals and has participated in several National & International Seminars & workshops. He has contributed to a few modules to NCERT on Inclusive Education. He is at present Member of BOS in the Dept. of Special Education in Utkal University and Berhempur University of Odisha.

K. Srinivas Reddy, is presently working as a Lecturer in Education at NIEPVD, under Department of Disability Affairs, Govt. of India. He has started his career in teaching from Devnar Foundation for the Blind, Hyderabad. He has participated in many seminars, workshops, conferences related to Special Education at National and State Level like SSA and RMSA. He has experience in live programs in Doordarshan and All India Radio on Disability Issues and Special Education.
