PREFACE

English is the most widely spoken language in the world. The English language also helps in establishing trade among different countries of the world at the international level. The book entitled “Teaching of English’ is written to sort out the problems faced by the teacher trainees while teaching. This book has been prepared for students who offer to work as teachers of English. To become an effective teacher, it is necessary that they have an understanding of the theoretical aspects of the pedagogy of English.

The authors have tried to cover important topics related to various aspects of English. This book has been written in 24 chapters. All the chapters deal with objectives, principles, functions, teaching-learning materials, essential linguistic skills and evaluation procedures of all the skills etc. The authors hope this book injects some new thinking into the system of education through teacher education programmes.
