Preface
A number of new subjects have been introdused in, the B.Ed. syllabi since the bifurcation of the courses into a two year-long-course recently by NCTE One of them is “Reading and Reflecting on Texts”. By this new subject it is thought to inculcate some essential qualities and skills in the pupil-teachers, so that they may overcome several of their inhibitions in order to emerge as excellent teachers in their professional lives. Punjabi University, Patiala has also included this subject as a core subject in the B.Ed. courses from 2010 onwards
It is generally seen that in our education colleges, pupil teachers are not given to reading widely, which limits their knowledge disastrously, having adverse impact on their professional excellence. This subject will help the popul-teachers to understand and undertake the study of different types of texts with a purpose of comprehensive and critical reviews for overall interpretation and adaptation.
In this book, all the theoretical aspects of the subject are discussed. An attempt is made to give somewhat modern approach as well as comprehensive discussion on all the concepts of reading and reflection. It is tried to present the standardized and latest subject-matter in a lucid and simple style and according to the level of the B.Ed. class. It is expected that this book will surely help the teachers, pupil-teachers and common readers to understand the various aspects of reading documents and texts.
Sincere thanks to all the authors and their publishers whose works has been consulted while preparing this book. Our beloved publisher S. Harvinder Singh Randhawa deserves special thanks for publishing this book on a new content and material, rarely available in the market.
