Preface

The educational and vocational or occupational areas are of guidance and counselling which have acquired important place and received much attention in recent years. The educational and vocational or occupational areas are changing rapidly every where. Curricular and co-curricular areas have tremendously expanded during the past three decads, occupations, too have developed manifolds. It is becoming extremely difficult for educationists to prepare the youth for education, for occupation and for life in this rapidly changing world. There are various types of problems in schools and colleges. The teachers and principals are unable to solve the problems of the students. They need some guidance for educational and vocational problems. The personal problems of adjustment and emotional require counselling. The young can make their life smooth and successful. National Policy of Education (1986) has also emphasized this need in very clear terms making it imperative for guidance and counselling service to become integral part of educational programmes.

There is a dearth of literature on this essential supporting devices of guidance and counselling to our conditions. This script is an attempt then with the related knowledge and skills for performing activities in this era. The available literature on this area has been organized into six unit and twenty chapter-bases of guidance, educational and vocational guidance, basis of counselling an organization of guidance centres. It is according to UGC syllabus.
