About the Book

In the preparation of this book “Developmental Psychology the author has based his ideas and interpretations on solid foundations of the modern psychological theories and researches. So in essaying this volume the author has freely drawn from research results as also from any other disciplines allied with psychology such as anthropology, medical researches, sociology and ethnology, behavioral genetics, paediatrics, biology, home economics, nursing etc. This method has been followed just to avoid any confusion in the mind of the reader. The author has purposely avoided the inclusion of any statistical data which could have been 9-5 boring to the reader. Thus an attempt has been made to present this book in a refreshing manner free from data relating to various types of researches in the related fields.

In the selection and organization of the subject matter of this book, the curricular demands of graduate and postgraduate students of psychology have been particularly kept in focus.

About the Author

Prof. S.P. Chaube has received his M.A. Degree from Banaras and M.Ed. from Allahabad. He has travelled extensively throughout U.S.A., U.K. and various European countries and has closely studied the educational systems of the same. Dr. Chaube was appointed a Fellow by the University of Indiana, Bloomington, U.S.A. which conferred on him the degree of Doctor of Education in 1952. As a mark of his contribution to educaion in India Dr. Chaube was decorated with the G.J. Watumull Memorial Award in Education in 1963 by a board of international judges. Lucknow University conferred on him its D.Litt. Degree in 1965. He taught at the University of Lucknow for about 16 years and he joined the University of Gorakhpur in 1969 from where he retired as a Professor of Education and Dean, Faculty of Education, in 1979. Dr. Chaube’s works, particularly, in the fields of “Education” and “Psychology” are taught in universities throughout India. He has written more than 50 books both in Hindi and English under these two disciplines. Out of these 50, more than a dozen pertain to the discipline of “Psychology.”
