PREFACE
Teachers play an extraordinary part in the lives of children in the formative years of their development and the importance of teachers is something that cannot be understated. They have the responsibility of moulding students into responsible citizens of their country. A teacher is expected to be a friend, philosopher and guide to the students and he can fulfil this role only if he has knowledge about the various stages of growth and development of the child and his requirements at different levels.
Educational psychology helps the teacher to study the ability, interests, intelligence, and needs of students at diverse stages and adopt a variety of teaching techniques for effective communication. The contribution of educational psychology to the theory and practice of education is rich and varied. The knowledge of educational psychology is extremely important as it equips the teachers with basic skills and guidelines to solve the problems of the teaching-learning process.
This book aims to provide basic knowledge about educational psychology to prospective teachers to help them understand the social, emotional, and cognitive processes involved in learning and improve the teaching-learning process. It enables a teacher to work on the strengths of the students by shaping their minds and turning their journey of life into the correct direction.
The author is indebted to the authors and publishers whose work has been consulted to make this book suitable for all readers and would like to thank the publisher Bookman, Delhi for organising and formatting the material in appropriate book form.
