PREFACE

The development of any democratic country depends on the status and performances of teachers. The large number of Teacher-Education Institutions have been set up after independence in our country, hat they could not produce effective-teachers one of the mai” reason is that main emphasis is given on theory courses which do not help in preparing effective teachers. Teacher must know the teaching theorius, activities, operations and teaching competencies. The government of India has realized this problem of teacher-education and formed National Council of Seacher Education (NCTE) to look into the status of teachers of our country.

Education is a process of development which includes the three major activities teaching, training and instruction. Teaching is social as well as professional activity. It is science and as well as art. So far teaching has been studied and analysed by standing outside the classroom. This approach could not explain the nature of teaching. Moreover learning theories have been emphasized too much in teacher education course but these neither could be used in teaching nor could be solved the problems of classroom. As a result, the training institutions are not able to prepare effective teacher. Now there is shift from learning theories to teaching theories. The process of classroom observation system and techniques it has evolved a new field of Educational Technology in the discipline of education. It has revoltionized the process of education by using media and multi-media approaches.

Teacher-education programme is being made competency based. The feedback devices are used for developing teaching skills and competencies. Educational technology has encouraged media in teaching-learning situation. It has developed an alternative system of education which is known as Distance education. The computer managed instructions are also used to make educational process efficient.

Most the universities have introduced and are introducing this new content as course of Educational Technology or Teaching Technology in B.Ed. course. The present book has been written by including some content of print and non-print media.
